Below are some of the standard Tour itineraries which we offer our guests. We can also arrange custom trips, hikes and walks around Rio depending on your requirements. We can also make contact and arrange local guides and tour companies for some other tours offered in and around Rio including jeep tours, favela tours, helicopter tours, boat tours etc.

We recommend advance booking for tours during special events times.

Prices shown below are in US$, for the minimum number of guests indicated or a rate can be negotiated for fewer number of guests on request. (Note: prices are subject to change if not booked in advance).


For those who would like the comfort of pre-arranged transport and an English speaking guide to accompany them on a tour of Rio's major touristic highlights, this tour starts with a visit to the "Cristo Redentor" or Christ the Redeemer Statue plus a visit to what we believe to be the best viewpoint within the Tijuca National Park. We then carry on to the Famous Botanical Gardens, originally created as the "Acclimatization Gardens" by the Prince Regent, shortly after the Portuguese Royal family moved to Rio in the early 1800's. We usually have a light lunch in the gardens (not included). Then after lunch we will make a quick overview with photo opportunities of Rio's 12 km of South Zone Beaches: Leblon, Ipanema and Copacabana, with an option to visit the army fortress at the end of Copacabana Beach for special photos and snacks or drinks! We will finish the afternoon with a visit to the Sugar Loaf and Morro da Urca complex reached by a series of cable cars from the Praia Vermelha or "Red Beach" in the Urca neighborhood.

We'll start on the local metro system to see how the local´s get around the city. Then we´ll take a walking tour through the historic area of Rio's "centro" from Cinelandia to Praça XV, including churches, convents, the opera house and Paço Imperial. Option to include the Santa Teresa artist district.

A chance to see some of the most beautiful parts of Rio - yet off the beaten path (visited by less than 5% of tourists!!). We'll drive along Rio's vast coastline past Copacabana, Ipanema and Leblon beaches, along the scenic Niemeyer avenue, Sao Conrado beach (where the hang gliders land from Pedra Bonita mountain), past Barra and Recreio beaches. After Macumba beach we'll head inland to the Casa do Pontal Museum - the best folklore and Popular Art museum in Brazil... (about 50km from Copacabana!) After the museum, a stop at Prainha beach to watch the surfers briefly at the most famous surf spot in Rio! Then on to Abricó and Grumari beaches and ecological area. This will be our destination for the rest of the afternoon, with time for lunch at a small rustic restaurant right on the sea noted for its seafood (beef, chicken and salads available optionally for those who don't eat seafood). And plenty of time to swim, photograph and explore. This area offers incredible coastline, pristine clean beaches, few people and no buildings or electricity! (something like Copacabana before anyone ever inhabited the area) Lush banana covered mountain backdrops and crashing ocean waves. Optional visit to the naturalist beach Abricó just beside for those who aren't shy! Drive back to the B&B along the same route as we came.

Just after breakfast we'll drive from the B&B up to the Tijuca National Park with a few stops on the way including the Largo do Boticário and the Mirante Dona Marta (with one of the best views of the south zone of Rio!) Then on to the Tijuca Forest. Here we'll visit the waterfall Cascatinha Taunay and get a taste of the vast Tijuca Park - the world's largest urban National Park! A chance to see some of the most beautiful parts of Rio yet off the beaten path (visited by less than 5% of tourists!!) From here we'll drive directly to Barra and Recreio beaches and follow the itinerary of Tour #3 (not visiting Casa do Pontal museum given time limitations).

A group tour! transport by van from a meeting point in Botafogo to Rio's largest Favela "Rocinha", plus a visit to a smaller neighboring favela in São Conrado district presently in expansion. This visit provides a chance to examine some of the social/ economic issues that affect Brazil and one of the world´s largest cities in rapid growth. Chance to talk to the people living in the area via multi-lingual guides. Visit to a children's school.

- Duration: 3 hours (including picking up other passengers and drive to/ from the Favela) - price approx. US$30 per person - minimum 1 guest (not including lunch).


A personalized tour! we travel by Metro to Ipanema, take the new Elevator to the the Peace Lookout or "Mirante da Paz" for photos over Ipanema and Leblon beaches, then cross into the Favelas "Cantagalo and Pavão/ Pavãozinho" offering spectacular views over the beaches and Lagoon on the other side of the mountain. Visit to the home of one of Rio's famous Art Naif artist's at the top of the Favela, visit to a children's school and activity center, optional lunch inside the Favela - for an inexpensive, delicious "home cooked" meal!

No experience necessary! Includes transportation to/from Pedra Bonito (launch point) and preparatory lesson. You will fly over São Conrado neighborhood/ beach and the Atlantic ocean. Unforgettable memories of Rio!

8. BURLE MARX GARDENS (Jardim Burle Marx)

Once home to Brazil's most famous Landscape Architect - Burle Marx created one of the largest and most beautiful Tropical Plant collections (plants from all over the world including a rare collection of Brazilian species from the north of the country and Amazon regions). Now the area (once a banana plantation) is operated by IPHAN the federal government historic preservation group and visited by appointment only with a guide. This is a very special experience and rare for tourists to visit. Incredible natural beauty in a serene country setting (but hidden away in an untouched corner of this vast city!). Optional lunch in a traditional seafood restaurant along the "Restinga da Marambaia" mangrove swamp area.

A trip outside Rio up the lush mountain roads to the mountains towering over 2000m behind the city. Petropolis was home during the hot summer months to Brazil's Imperial Family. We will visit the famous Gothic style Cathedral, the Emperor's Palace (now the Imperial museum), a fabulous old gambling Casino - designed by one of Hollywood's most famous designers - Dorothy Draper! and more...

Located beyond Petropolis. Walking tours, or a full day hike, swimming in pristine natural pools and waterfalls, or driving tours for those who prefer photo opportunities to hiking (route along park between Petropolis and Teresopolis - with fabulous sunsets and views of the mountains), or horseback riding in the mountain villages beyond the National Park.

- Duration: approx. 10 hours - price starting at US$150 per person minimum 4 guests - or price may be negotiated for fewer guests (not including attraction admission fees or lunch).


We drive from Rio over what was the world's longest bridge in the 1970's, to the sister city of Niterói. We'll visit the famous Niemeyer Contemporary Art Museum MAC. Then on to the first Army fortress opened to the public, dating to the 1500's - the Fortaleza Santa Cruz. with beautiful views including back to Rio and across the Guanabara bay to the Sugarloaf. We will learn about the history of the founding of Rio from the soldiers on a working army base. Then, follow up with a visit to Niterói's "City Park" on the top of a mountain - offering even more spectacular views across to Rio and up the coast along the so called "Regiao dos Lagos" (or Lakes district).

We offer hikes and nature walks within Rio including trails within the Tijuca National Park, deserted beaches along the coastal area near Guaratiba, within the Serra do Orgaos National Park and other destinations - custom built for those interested!
