This was our first stop on our 6 month voyage across South America and we loved the place! The beds were sooo comfortable with memory foam pillows! And a lovely little pool and sociable pet turtle! Although a little tough to find it's well worth it/ get an uber to save hassle! The two owners very friendly and helpful with information! Thanks for a great stay guys!

O Veleiro was the ideal place to base ourselves during our stay in Rio for the Olympics. Rob and Richard were most welcoming and were in frequent contact via email before our stay.
On arrival Richard gave us a variety of maps and instructions on how to get to the metro. The walk up and down the hill got easier as the days went on. The walk to the metro is only 20 mins and then only takes minutes to get to Copacabana.
We stayed in a twin room with a shared bathroom. We didn't experience any issues sharing the bathroom with the room next door. Everyday our room was cleaned and we were given fresh towels.
The buffet for breakfast was very tasty and everyday during our stay something different was offered. The waffles with syrup were particularly tasty! I liked that breakfast is at a communal table so we could chat to other guests each morning.
O Veleiro offer a variety of tours but as we had limited available time due to attending the Olympics we didn't go on any of these.
We loved our stay at O Veleiro and would stay here again in a heartbeat if we return to Rio.
Room Tip: I would recommend using the airport transfer service the B&B offers

Since I was going to Rio by myself for one week of holiday and then a week of work I did not want to be lost in a big anonymous beachside hotel. I chose O Veleiro because of its location relatively near to the university and central in the middle-class Botafogo neighbourhood in Zona Sul.
I was not disappointed. Staying for twelve nights I had plenty of time to enjoy the scenery, the great breakfast and the care and attention of Rob & Richard. The hosts were ready with advice on what to see and how to get there in the quickest, safest and most reliable way. As an urban researcher I especially enjoyed my conversations with them about life in Rio and the city's development over the past decades.
The location uphill means a bit of a climb which is no problem if you are in shape, I actually enjoyed testing my endurance this way. But if you don't feel like walking it's only a short cab ride and taxis are not expensive in Rio. The best thing however is that once uphill you're outside the hustle and bustle of the city and it's a few degrees cooler. There you can enjoy a quiet night on their great terrace surrounded by Atlantic jungle foliage.
Being a smaller facility O Veleiro cannot include all the creature comforts of a large beachside facility, but what you get in return is more than worth it: a personal approach, caring hosts, great views and the peace and quiet of a great neighbourhood. And if you want to visit Copacabana, Ipanema and the beach, they're only a few metro-stops away.
I already miss the fresh juice straight from the garden at breakfast and if I come back to Rio I'll definitely consider staying at O Veleiro again!
I had the room with the outside bathroom, which is literally one step outside the room door. It was perfect for me.
