Favela Tour

A Favela is the Brazilian equivalent of a shanty town, and they are found spread out across Rio. They have electricity, and some have piped water, but often services are not formally provided.

A Favela Tour is an illuminating experience if you look for an insider’s point of view on the varying lifestyles of the Brazilian people. The tour introduces you to another Rio, within the city of Rio: the favelas.

There are officially over 850 favelas in Rio alone. Mostly constructed on former public areas on the hillsides, they are now home to as much as 40% of the city’s population. However, they remain a mystery for most of the people who don’t live there. The tour is not only to explain about the favelas and their origin, but also to give you a whole new understanding about the different aspects of Brazilian society.
