Rob and Richard, Wow wow wow. You made our stay in Rio more wonderful than we could have imagined! You really made us feel like family. OK so some favourite moments: feeding the turtle poolside, sipping caipirinhas in the evening, secret waterfalls in the National park (the tour was amazing!), and of course your lovely sense of humour and smiles. We will miss you guys back in Canada.
We changed to O Veleiro from a hostel we didn’t like and it was the best we could do. Everything was perfect: the room, the bathroom, the cleanlinnes, the breakfast, the garden… and the best of all, Rob and Richard’s hospitality and conversation.
It’s so great to arrive to this comfortable place after a day in the wild Rio, to cool down in the pool after a really hot day, and to relax in the garden with the wild forest’s sounds.
I’ll recommend this place to everyones who’ll visit Rio.
After staying 1 night in a windowless backpackers room, O Veleiro became our personal refuge the nights after walking the hot streets of Rio – and our source for amazing breakfasts the mornings before. The perfect shelter for exploring an wonderful city. Rob&Richard made the experience even more enjoyable.
Saludos desde Chile!
I spent a week in O Veleiro and felt very much at home and well cared for. The pick-up service from the airport worked perfectly. The rooms are clean and tastefully furnished. The two owners Rob and Richard are incredibly friendly, helpful and always have good ideas for excursions and advises for dos and donts when moving around this big city. The house is situated beautifully in the green city jungle and after a busy day of sightseeing you can relax in the garden at the small swimming pool and cool down. The next metro station is a 15 minutes walk down the hill to Praia de Botafogo. I never felt unsafe on my way to of from the metro, even when I walked it later in the evening. I can recommend this place to everyone traveling to Rio, also to women traveling on their own!
I totally enjoyed my stay at the O Veleiro Bed and Breakfast in Botafogo. Having stayed at Bed and Breakfast in the States, I was’nt sure what to expect. I must say that this was one of the BEST Bed and Breakfast that I’ve ever stayed at!
I agree with one of the previous review about the feeling of going to lovely and peaceful place after spending the day at Praia Botafogo Shopping (located a nice walk away from the place), at the beach or just walking around the City. You could totally feel and see the difference from being in the City to a peacful location with a homestyle feeling.
The landscaping is beautiful and the bedrooms were very clean and nicely kept. The house has these balconies where you over look some beautiful views. If you look very closely you may even see the arm of Christ from the balcony. They gave you access to their DVD collection which was great seeing “Cidade de Deus” after spending the day at the Favela tour (recommended by them) which was awesome.
I always looked forward to the breakfast. It was a great start to the day — sometimes I will be full until way after 1PM. They always had great hot coffee and selection of different bread (wheat, raisin), fresh fruit, fresh orange juice and a delicious banana drink. You also had your choice of lunch meats and cheese, Cereal and milk, and we had a delicious freshly made cake one morning. Nice healthy breakfast!
The owners of O Veleiro were out of the country for most of our stay; however, their staff, Wendel and Cosme did an EXCELLENT job with making us feel welcomed. They were very helpful and professional. They recommended great restaurant to eat and places to go visit. Thanks to them we were able to plan our vacation and do as much as possible in the 5 day we were there.
We were also fortunate to meet Robin before we left to thank him for everything and to let him know that we had a very pleasant stay and that he had a very lovely place away from home. Definitely recommend this place to everyone…
What a charming spot! Rob is a warm and welcoming host and shared many tips and ideas to enhance our stay in Rio. Was a treat to find this home in the heart of Rio – it is clean, inviting and relaxing. Our family of 4, mom, dad, 2 kids (12&13) enjoyed our stay. Breakfast is great and the location is close to key attractions, in a safe area. We would return again! Recommend this B&B to travellers looking to experience some of the local flavor and enjoy discovering hidden gems that lie off the beaten path.
